Warmshowers is a community website with the aim to provide accommodation for cyclists looking for a roof and a warm shower during their travels. You might know another community website with the same goal: Couchsurfing.
The difference between Warmshowers and Couchsurfing is the first one is ONLY for the INTERNATIONAL CYCLIST COMMUNITY while Couchsurfing is for everybody.
I tried Couchsurfing five times and will continue to use it when I’m not riding a pushbike. It’s a great platform but it can be hard for a guy to find a couch. One good example is when I was in Sydney. I was looking for a couch for a friend and me. I only found one couch on a sailing boat (great experience for 4 days!) only after two weeks search.
But my girl friend tried just one day and she got 25 answers in 10 hours, even from people she didn’t ask to stay with. From this moment, my point of view on Couchsurfing changed. It is creepy.

Warmshowers: A serious advantage for cyclists from all around the world
On the other hand you have warmshowers reserved for cyclists all around the world. I used the warmshowers application for Android three times during my travels in Australia when I was in Melbourne, Sydney and Hobart where I rode my mountain bike. It took me less than an hour to find someone who could receive me, happy to share a common sport activity with a foreign traveller and all the stories related to this one.
Warmshowers is for people sharing a same passion for cycle touring, road biking or mountainbiking. Therefore you can get really good tips from the warmshowers community since locals always know their area/tracks/topography and they often know another local with who you might stay in a different town.
About the warmshowers application for android, once you get register from a computer this one is fantastic. You can see where every warmshowers live (red pins on the map) and you can contact them by e-mail or call them directly, which is more efficient than waiting for someone to reply by e-mail. It makes everything much easier and faster.
